Let there be lights in Haiti!
One solar LED street light at a time.
Haiti's current situation: Darkness everywhere!
In the country of Haiti, less than 30% of the population has access to electricity. Right now in 2019, once the sun goes down, the great majority of the Haitian population lives in darkness.

Now, how do we bring lights and power to the 70% ?
The answer: Solar Energy
My name is Wyster Desir, the founder of Zetwal Energy LLC in Miami, FL.

At Zetwal Energy, we focus on deploying microgrid solar systems throughout the Caribbean and Central America.

I'm originally from Haiti and moved to the United States as a young man. I joined and served proudly in the US Army for 10 years, deploying overseas to both war and humanitarian missions. After the Army, I worked for an American energy company providing fast-track, interim energy solutions to people all around the world for 7 years -- mostly in developing countries. During this journey, both my military and civilian experiences have put me on a path to serve and directly impact people's lives for the greater good of humanity. This is my calling.

In 2011, during a work assignment in the Country of Senegal, West Africa, a local driver and I were in conversation on the way to my hotel. He said to me, “I’d like to thank you so much for being here.” To which I had to ask, “why?” He earnestly noted “Because you're here to bring us electricity. And after food and water, electricity is what we need the most. Food and water we can provide for ourselves, but we need the government to give us electricity."

That was a sobering statement. This man, and many others, have to make the difficult choice to put access to electricity ahead of healthcare and education. This exchange impacted me in a profound way. I knew right then that I was in an industry that had the potential to change lives.

In 2010, immediately following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, I was deployed with the US Army as part of the recovery and relief efforts. During a meeting, then President of Haiti, Mr. Rene Preval, said to me:

"Those of you young Haitians who get to go learn great skills and experience life elsewhere must come back someday to help our country." I accepted his charge and knew then that one day I'd need to go back and help my home country.

Nearly ten years later, my exchange with the President of Haiti after the earthquake, my conversation with my driver in West Africa, and my 8 years experience in helping to provide energy solutions to other countries around the world have brought me to this Klere Haiti project.

I came to realize that there is a way for people to have access to electricity without having to wait for the government to bring it to them. The answer to that is Solar Energy. In one hour, the sun supplies enough energy to earth to power all of our needs for one year. We are able to tap into this reliable and infinite resource to bring lights and power to the most remote locations in the world.  Now everyone can easily and sustainably produce the energy they consume at home. Quite simply, it's the era of the democratization of energy. People may finally have "power" and control over their access and use of energy.

More specifically, with Solar LED street lights we can easily solve the darkness problem in public places, small towns and villages of Haiti. It's an easy and sustainable way to provide safe, reliable street lighting to the people of Haiti for the next 15-20 years.

Zetwal Energy is doing just that. Right now via Klere Haiti.
KlereHaiti is an initiative of Zetwal Energy LLC, based in Miami, FL. Through our Klere Haiti campaign, we have now installed fifteen (15) all-in-one integrated solar LED street lights in my small home town of Tiburon, in the South of Haiti (Department Sud), with thirty (30) more currently on order, to be installed before Christmas 2019.

Prior to installing the street lights, people were using dangerous kerosene lamps and burning candles at night. Students were straining their eyes or were unable to read or study at night.

All activities come to a stop when the sun sets, sometimes as early as 5 pm, which dramatically slows the productivity of working people. Under the cover of total darkness lurks danger and those who would take advantage of the village’s vulnerability. Sundown meant forced curfew.

Since the installation of the first Klere Haiti street lights in August 2019, the transformation in that part of town and among the people was immediate. The impact was positive and immediate.

Although we've installed just a few lights thus far, we are off to a great start. The feedback from the community has been tremendously positive. We're just getting started. The territory to be covered is vast.
We've started with the South of Haiti (Department Sud) and we will expand from there. Every light we install will have an immediate positive impact on its community. We're excited about the future.
Economies don't grow in the dark.
Reliable access to electricity is the driving force behind all growing economies around the world. The time is now for Haiti to make progress and join others in the 21st century. We can help Haiti achieve this.

I have seen first hand the immediate effect and improvement on the quality of life of those who now have access to safe lighting at night. Students are able to study in the evening, adults stay out later, people safely gather around in their neighborhoods to work and play. People live safer, are happier and more productive in general, which will have a tremendous positive effect on their lives in the near future.
How does this work?
Each solar LED street light is an all-in-one integrated system. The solar panel gathers energy from the sun during the day and charges the onboard battery, which then powers the LED lights at night.

There are different sizes (watts) and models of lights, but they all work under the same principle. They're equipped with many different features that make them reliable, sustainable, efficient and self-operational:

Thanks to ambient light sensors, the lights can automatically come ON at sunset and turn OFF at sunrise.
They can be programmed to dim down to approximately 30% brightness when there's no activity and are equipped with motion sensors that automatically detect activities and bring the LED's to full brightness.
Or, they can simply be set to turn ON/OFF during specific hours.

This technology has been proven to work reliably in other parts of the world such as in Africa. We're simply adopting and implementing it in Haiti.

How are the lights being deployed? WITH YOUR HELP.
We've started with our own personal funds, but our pockets are not deep enough to do it all alone. We need your contribution to move forward, however small or large it may be, to keep going.

The people of Haiti living in darkness can’t solve this problem alone because they don’t have the means, but they have the heart and the desire to do so. Together we can help them light the nights. This darkness problem in Haiti is one that we can collectively solve together, one solar street light at a time.

For every $300 we raise, Zetwal Energy will install a complete solar LED street light system in a remote town in Haiti. We've started in the South of Haiti and working from the outside in, reaching the farthest villages where just a few street lights are needed, and moving to small towns that need a few dozen lamps. By the time we're done, every town in Haiti will have reliable street lighting for the next 15-20 years.

We have a highly-trained and motivated team of young eager professionals and skilled technicians on the ground in Haiti who are ready to expertly execute each installation as soon as they arrive.

We have partnerships and direct access with some of the leading global manufacturers of quality solar LED street lights. As soon as enough money is raised, we get the lights and accessories produced and shipped to Haiti where our team on the ground is ready to install them. Every solar street light can be erected and operational within 30 days of being funded.

We have an established operation that performs like clockwork. Our solar lights are awesome. Our passionate team on the ground is even more awesome!

You can contribute to the movement and help sponsor a solar street light in Haiti in the following ways:
Why we are worthy of your trust.
I was born and raised in Haiti then moved to the USA as a young man. I had a chance to join the US Army and served for 10 years during which I acquired many skills, a great education and fascinating experiences around the world. Being employed with an energy company for years took me around the world, helping to deploy energy solutions to some of the most unsettling places such as Iraq, Libya, Yemen and other challenging countries such as Burkina Faso, Bangladesh, Myanmar and others. In the last eight years, I have traveled to 65 countries for a combination of work, leisure or to live (in Dubai and Guatemala). My travels have allowed me to see and experience the very best and also the very worst of the world. I have seen how many problems are solved, especially with energy. I have helped countries, utilities, commercial and industrial customers produce, distribute and use energy to power their progress. This darkness problem in Haiti is an easy one to solve. Since the government has not done it and the people who need it can't afford it, we're stepping up to solve it collectively. Zetwal Energy is very proud and capable of spearheading this movement and helping solve the problem.

I was on site in Haiti with the US Army for 4 months after the devastating earthquake in 2010 to help with the recovery efforts. I had been waiting for the opportunity to return to continue making a difference.

I have participated in social economic activities helping people in many countries around the world, feeding and treating the poor, disabled, the blind, the orphans in countries such as Haiti, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and others. My life's course has always placed me in the position and presented me with opportunities to serve and help others. That's where I find excitement, self-fulfillment, pride and a sense of significance. This is my mission.

But this is not about me. Klere Haiti is about my fellow countrymen and women and what we can do collectively to help light the nights in Haiti.

I take the challenge from President Preval to heart. This privilege of helping solve the darkness problem in small towns of Haiti is one of the most personally satisfying endeavors of my life. I'm passionate about it. I'm dedicated to it. It's personal.

The proof will be "bright".
We understand the value of your contribution. We take pride in using it for its intended purpose. We thoroughly document every street light install with videos and pictures of where (with exact GPS coordinates), when, and who are the people directly benefiting from it. It's very easy to see where and how the donated funds are used. It's light versus dark. The results will always be brilliantly visible.

For each light installation, the funds will be used for:

- purchasing quality equipment (solar street lights, mounting brackets, poles etc.)
- paying for international shipment
- clearing customs in Haiti
- transporting equipment to local destination
- hiring local installers
- maintaining local operations staff (traveling and identifying installation locations, interacting with local authorities and communities, getting appropriate authorizations, planning installation etc.)
- training maintenance staff
- warehousing, repairs, spare parts, etc.

Please stay in touch and follow our progress via social media. See each light go ON.
